The little mermaid is a sculpture of Edvard Eriksen (1909) based on the fairy tale of Hans Christian Anderson. In the novel, the little mermaid was willing to give up her life in the sea to gain a human soul. One day after we visited her, she was found drenched in red paint. I bet she gave up on becoming a human after this incident.
